Husband and wife Steve Pflipsen and Katia Olivova’s designs and techniques were developed through experimentation as well as their studies and work in the United States, the Czech Republic, and Sweden.
Katia Pflipsen Olivova is a third generation glass and jewelry artist, originally from the Czech Republic. Growing up in a family of artists, art and design have always been a major part of Katia’s life. She studied glass painting and design at the Secondary School of Glassmaking in Kamenicky Senov followed by two years of jewelry design study before moving to the US to continue working and developing her technique. Steve graduated from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls with a BFA in glass and ceramics. He expanded his knowledge of glass blowing, cutting, and polishing while studying in Ahus, Sweden, Pittsburgh, PA and Zelezny Brod and Kamenicky Senov in the Czech Republic.
Steve and Katia met and fell in love while both studying at a glassmaking school in the Czech Republic. They were married in Katia’s home town, Zelezny Brod, and moved to River Falls, Wisconsin, and later to Alaska, to continue their artistic collaborations.
