David Yeatts takes unassuming blocks of maple wood and turns them into beautiful, functional bowls. He gets a little help from the activity of the ambrosia beetle, an insect which creates distinctive streaks in the maple's wood. While beautiful, these stripes are symptoms of a tree in distress. By using this wood, healthy trees are spared.
The figuring on each bowl is entirely unique, a product of natural products which never precisely repeat. Each is a functional treasure, destined for heirloom status.
