Peridot is the birthstone for August. While some folks call it "pear-a-dot", and others "pear-a-doe", there's no confusion about its enduring popularity. (Don't sweat the pronunciation - both are considered correct!) Peridot has been used to create jewelry for centuries, often in the company of other gems. Somewhat unusually for gemstones, peridot comes in a single color, a distinctive olive green, but it plays well with others and looks great paired with many gemstones and color palettes.
Peridot hails from many locales - it has sources in Asia, Africa, and North America. But some peridots are literally out of this world, found inside meteorites that have fallen to earth. Meteorite peridot is rare indeed, but terrestrial examples appear in many beautiful designs. Not an August baby, but love that beautiful green? Peridot is also a 16th wedding anniversary gift tradition.... and a beautiful just-because addition to your jewelry collection!
